September is REALTOR® Safety Month, making it the perfect time to pause and revisit the everyday precautions that keep you and your clients safe. A quick search for “Real Estate Agent Safety” can uncover countless resources—and potentially life-saving reminders.

Vacant Listings Require Extra Caution
An agent recently reported a break-in at a vacant property—a rare but important reminder that safety should always be top of mind. Here are a few ways to protect yourself, your clients, and your listings:

  • Avoid noting in marketing that a property is vacant.

  • Never share lockbox details in public MLS fields or advertisements.

  • Ask sellers to secure or remove valuables before showings.

  • Build rapport with neighbors—ask them to keep an eye out for unusual activity. (Bonus: it’s a great way to network!)

  • Personally check on vacant homes when possible.
